Overview

Contents of the workshop

Wikidata is an open and free database in which heterogeneous information is stored and retrievable in the form of a knowledge graph. The aim is to provide a human- and machine-readable, interdisciplinary and multilingual resource. As part of the Linked Open Data Cloud, it is based on open standards such as RDF or SPARQL. These features also make Wikidata very attractive for research data management. In this hands-on workshop, you will be familiarized with the underlying concepts and the use of Wikidata as well as with various tools such as Scholia in the FDM context.

The methods used in the digital workshop are individual exercises, plenary and group work as well as discussion and reflection rounds, which are supplemented by case studies. The workshop will be hosted by Dr. Till Sauerwein and Rabea Müller (ZB MED). No special IT knowledge is required. The teaching materials are based on the materials from The Carpentries.

Target group

Employees from university infrastructure facilities (especially libraries, computer centers and research funding units) as well as employees from research institutions. The workshop is explicitly aimed at participants without much experience in the field and serves as an introduction to the topic
