Overview
Contents of the workshop
This hands-on workshop teaches concepts for the efficient and reproducible management of research data. The aim of the workshop is to familiarize participants with various tools. It also aims to raise awareness of computational thinking, automation and optimization of one’s own processes. The event includes an introduction to: Data handling, the Unix shell, the Python programming language and the Git versioning system.
The workshop concepts follow the idea of the Library Carpentry Community. The target group expressly includes all persons from the infrastructure facilities of universities and research institutions in NRW who would like to acquire further IT and data skills for their work processes. The teaching materials are based on the materials from The Carpentries.
The three courses complement each other in terms of content and can be attended independently of each other. Individual exercises, plenary and group work as well as discussion and reflection rounds are supplemented by case studies. The workshops are organized by Rabea Müller and her instructor team. No special IT knowledge is required.
Target group
Employees from university infrastructure facilities (especially libraries, computer centers and research funding units) as well as employees from research institutions. The workshop is explicitly aimed at participants without much experience in the field and serves as an introduction to the topic
